Why most TOEFL prep now leaves you unprepared

TOEFL changed completely on 21 January 2026 — a new 1.0–6.0 scale, adaptive Reading and Listening, and new Speaking and Writing tasks. Almost all the prep material out there was written for the old 0–120 test, so it practises an exam that no longer exists. And many tools hand out flattering, inflated scores to keep you happy — which is the opposite of help: you walk into the real exam overconfident and underprepared.

AlmiTOEFL is built on one principle: tell you the truth. We practise the real new format and score you honestly on the 1.0–6.0 scale — even when it's lower than you hoped — so you walk in prepared, not surprised.

TOEFL practice — common questions

Is the new TOEFL 1–6 score the same as the old 0–120?
No. Since 21 January 2026 the overall TOEFL score is the AVERAGE of the four sections on a 1.0–6.0 scale — not the old 0–120 sum. There is no exact one-to-one conversion, and during the 2026–2028 transition some universities still list old 0–120 figures, so check which scale yours requires.
Is old TOEFL prep still useful?
Mostly not. The scale, several task types and the timing all changed in January 2026, so pre-2026 material practises a test that no longer exists. AlmiTOEFL is built for the new format.
How much does AlmiTOEFL cost?
$12 per month, monthly only, cancel anytime. No hidden fees.
Is AlmiTOEFL practice copied from ETS?
No. Every passage, audio script and prompt is original, written from scratch to mirror the real task types — never copied from ETS.
Can I practise TOEFL Speaking and Writing with feedback?
Yes. You record your Speaking and write your responses; we give honest AI feedback on a 1.0–6.0 band — useful and honest guidance, not a guaranteed official score, and we say so.
Does AlmiTOEFL cover the whole test?
Yes — Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing in the new format, plus a full timed mock test that reports your overall on the new scale.

What changed on 21 January 2026

TOEFL changed completely on 21 January 2026 — a new 1.0–6.0 band scale, adaptive Reading and Listening, new Speaking and Writing tasks, and results in ~72 hours. ETS asks you to allow about two hours for the test, and because it adapts the time and item count vary. Any prep from before January 2026 is obsolete. And during the 2026–2028 transition some universities still list old 0–120 requirements — check both.

TOEFL requirements by country

The score you need on the new 1–6 scale, plus which routes accept TOEFL — honest and sourced.

Honest, neutral guidance

TOEFL is great for university admission — but it is NOT accepted for Canadian PR or UK visas, and Australian visas still use the old 0–120 scores. We tell you where TOEFL works and where you'll need IELTS (AlmiPrep) or PTE (AlmiPTE) instead. No fabricated scores.

Practise the new TOEFL honestly. Walk in ready.
